What’s New in Qlik Sense May 2023 for Business Users, Analytic Creators and Data Integrators

The new Straight Table, one of the year’s most significant updates, significantly improves self­service capabilities with expanded exploratory analysis and reporting. It serves as a catch-all table, allowing users to pick and choose how they want their layout to be presented. Users can add multiple fields at once, change dimensions and measures, change column width, view the user field picker, select pagination or virtual scroll, and bookmark the layout.

Styling improvements to charts

New styling enhancements for several Qlik Sense charts are now available, providing app developers with more customization options when creating visualizations, allowing them to conform to company, department, or personal style standards and preferences.

Add Background Colors and Images to Charts

Straight tables, pivot charts, pie charts, and bar charts can now have a custom background color or image. You can now include backgrounds in bar charts in SaaS visualizations, with the option to set an image or color. Qlik continues to add capabilities that increase the flexibility and customization of Qlik Sense.

Line Charts can Display Larger Datasets

Qlik has increased the number of data points that can be displayed on the Line Chart in response to customer feedback. This gives Line Chart users more flexibility and scalability. The maximum for visible points is 50,000. The maximum for visible lines is 1,000. These options are available for line charts with a continuous dimension axis.

New Chart Functions for Custom App Navigation

The new chart functions ObjectId() and InObject() enable creation of guided applications with custom navigation functionality. For example, you can use the functions in conditional expressions to create colored buttons to navigate between sheets in an app.

The functions give access to the hierarchy of objects in a Qlik Sense app. ObjectId() will return the ID of the object in which the expression is evaluated. The function takes one optional string parameter, which can specify the type of the object you’re looking for. ObjectId(‘sheet’) will return the ID for the sheet of the expression. InObject(ID) is true when evaluated inside an object with the specified ID.
